I have over 15 years in the travel industry. I started off my travel career working in reservations for the airlines. I then transferred to the airport as a ticket agent! I learned customer service and patience from that job. After handing lost luggage, delayed flights, cancelled flights, diverted flights, you learn customer service. You find out that you either LOVE the industry or not!
Next, I worked for a major tour operator working exclusively with travel agents.
I have also worked in a reservation call center (Fly Cheap, Fly-4-Less). I took call after call, eight hours or more a day.

People can book online, but are you really saving money? That room that you booked online, is it really what you wanted?
I know people like to book their flights online. Gee, did you know about that hidden stop? The layover is how long? What do you mean I have to change planes in London Gatwick? How do I get there since I'm at London Heathrow? It happens all the time.
Oh, you booked online and have your confirmation - it's NOT what you booked. Good luck! You will pay a booking fee, and change fee. You will probably end up with somone eventually (via email or online) in a foreign country. DID YOU REALLY SAVE MONEY?????
When you contact me, you are going to get a real live person. If you get my answering machine, leave a message. I will call you back! You won't be pushing 10 buttons and then wonder if you ended up with the right department. Or, better yet, sit on hold and find out I'm closed. Also, you will consistently deal with me. You won't have to go through 10 people to get me, or never get me at all. I know what that feels like - I want to work with the person I first talked with.
