Barcelona's Superlative Allure

09/18/2007 03:09 a.m.

As you stroll along the streets of the Ramblas in the impressive capital of Catalonia, it is impossible not to get drawn in by the impressively rich culture which seems to envelop you everywhere you go. In this amazingly atmospheric area of Barcelona, you will be met with an assortment of statues that come to life, musicians making their street performances, and a variety of other characters putting on a continuous show which like everything else in the Catalonian mother city goes on until 4 or 5 in the morning. Your travel agent can certainly show you the best ways to enjoy this amazing city.

Despite the fact that it has been "under construction" for many decades, the Sagrada Familia by Gaudi is a must see wonder in structural design, definitely one of the world's most exciting edifices. The building is more than an architectural wonder, it is literally an enormous masterpiece of an art so elevated that few of us can truly comprehend the genius which generated it.

Catalonia lives and breathes through its music. Two of the many significant venues in Barcelona for visitors are the Palau de la Música Catalana where you can enjoy concerts featuring jazz or classical music and the Palau Sant Jordi, a huge indoor sporting arena where Barcelonans can enjoy concerts by international superstars. It is easy to lose yourself in the performing arts in Barcelona, with Gran Teatre del Liceu, L'Auditori, Teatre Apolo, Teatre Grec, Teatre Lliure, Teatre Poliorama, and Teatre Romea all presenting world-class theatrical and musical performances which rival those produced anywhere else on the globe.

Certainly one of the most renowned collections in the city are at the MACBA museum’s art exhibitions, but Barcelona offers up a cornucopia of amazing and memorable museums including the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia, Museu Picasso, Museu de les Arts Decoratives,  Museu Castell de Montjuïc & Museu Militar, and the Museu Egipci de Barcelona. The Catalonian pride of heritage is best demonstrated in the Museu d'Història de Catalunya and the Museu d'Història de la Ciutat. And where else could you find the Museu de l'Eròtica de Barcelona which is a museum completely dedicated to sex? Only your travel agent can fill you in on all the details!

Barcelona presents breathtaking views from its promintories, so take the Tramvía Blau or Blue Tram to the top of Tibidabo for a magnificent view of the city. As the sun goes down you can sink into a chair at one of the many chiringuito bars scattered along the golden beaches of Barcelona. The Barri Gòtic is a popular location for nightlife activities such as wine bars, cocktail lounges, tapas bars and yes, even Irish pubs. If what interests you for the evening is a perfectly prepared Catalonian traditional feast, then El Born is going to be your choice for the best in New Catalonian cooking, located in the vicinity of a large number of fine fashion boutiques where you can enjoy remarkable delicacies while absorbing all that Barcelona has to offer. Your travel agent can demonstrate how affordable a trip of a lifetime to Barcelona can certainly be!
