Munich Enjoys The Spirit Of Oktoberfest All Year Long
09/18/2007 03:09 a.m.
The most popular time of year to visit Munich is during the season of its Oktoberfest, but the Bavarian capital has much more to offer than just a couple of weeks of beer swilling in the autumn. Your travel agent can explain how Munich is a multi-faceted and fascinating city which presents a wide range of activities right throughout the year for its many visitors from around Europe and around the world.
Music is a major part of life in this city and experiences range from free rock concerts at the lakeside Olympiapark, summer concerts at Nymphenburg Palace, the Bavarian State Opera and classical music of the Munich Philharmonic. Other hot spots include the famous BMW museum for motor enthusiasts and the Olympic Spirit sports theme park. Viewing the great works of art of the Schloss Nymphenburg rococo palace, visiting the rococo theatre the Residenz and the Alpine Museum, getting a total body tan in the nudists OK Englischer Garten, passing a day in the Botanischer Garten, and tasting weisswurst made from calf's head should be on the things-to-do list of every visitor, a list your travel agent can assist you in compiling.
When the sun sets in Munich is a good time to go drinking at the Hofbräuhaus which has been serving both visitors and locals alike since 1589. Enjoying the beer gardens and beer cellars is a true sport in Munich, which features the Augustiner-Keller, one of the city's most famous beer cellars located right on the main shopping street; the Aumeister, which features lovely shady trees and overlooks the pond in the northern part of the Englisher Garten and its sunworshipping nudists; the Chinesischer Turm which is a beer hall of such renown that it is often cited in poetry and song, and hosts a throng of locals when the brass bands play on Sundays; the Augustiner Biergarten, which is one of the most popular genuine beer gardens; and the Hirschgarten which is situated in Neuhausen, right next to a deer enclosure and is Bavaria’s largest beer garden, with 8,000 seats, and your travel agent can ensure that one of those seats is waiting for you!
Evenings are also the favored time when the party lovers, both singles and stylish couples, flock to the areas between Schicki-Micki and Vie de Bohème. There is also plenty of opportunity to see the “nobles of the land” boasting their fancy suits and expensive jewelry stepping from their BMW 7-series sedans and strolling down the brightly lit sidewalks.
