If you've ever felt like you were in a floating city when you went on a cruise, there are more intimate alternatives. The Sea Dream I & II are fully equipped cruise ships, but downsized to accommodate a maximum of 110 guests. This limit allows for much more personal attention as you are never in a crowd and the crew complement of 92 provides close to a one to one ratio.
When you're on a Sea Dream ship, you feel like you're on a millionaire's private yacht, with some meals served on open decks and even a small, intimate pool. The guest suites are magnificent, with large windows and impeccable furnishings. Sixteen of the staterooms convert to double suites with a separate living room, and your travel agent can certainly provide you with brochures so you can see the level of spacious luxury for yourself.
The Sea Dreams have many of the amenities of the larger ships as well, including internet service in the library, a small casino with blackjack and some slot machines, and even a golf simulator. The ships also have a well-equipped medical facility with a licensed, highly trained physician on all voyages.
What you won't get on the Sea Dreams are the endless activity schedules, the throng of people filing into the dining rooms and the rest of the features of the massive megaships. The Sea Dreams are designed to appeal to the cruiser who desires a more individualistic cruising experience as the crew deals on a one on one basis, rather than pointing to the group where to sit.
A great example of the individual attention that you will receive on these ships is the Sea Dream Spa and Fitness Center which is listed together with some of the leading spas in the world with the Thai Spa Association and is the only one of its kind at sea. The spa includes a Fitness Center with ocean views which features treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, and free weights all with flat screen TVs and DVD players. Tai Chi and yoga on deck are also available.
There are no formal dress requirements and most cruisers dress in Resort Casual for dinners, which are a cut above the average cruising fare. The ships have their own Sommeliers managing impressive Wine Cellars.
The Sea Dreams ply the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, thus offer a couple of TransAtlantic cruises as well as the ships reposition. Crossing the mighty Atlantic on a ship that is so small as compared to the conventional cruisers is a real adventure, almost a cross between cruising and yachting across the ocean.
Given the small passenger list, there are many times on the Sea Dreams when you can be blissfully alone, relaxing on a lounge chair watching the ocean go by. And that is a priceless experience. Your travel agent can provide more information on these wonderful small cruise ships.
