Detailed Trip Description

The "Call of Buddha" tour focuses on the Buddhist destinations in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In the history of Buddhism, Andhra Pradesh took a leading role in the spread of Buddhism to Far Eastern countries. The state has over 140 listed Buddhist sites, which provide a panoramic view of the history of Buddhism from the 3rd century B.C. to the 14th century A.D. This tour tries to cover some of the significant sites associated the Buddhist religion such as Nagarjuna Konda, Amravati, Ghantasala, and Bavikonda.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Hyderabad

 
Arrive Hyderabad.

You will meet our executives on arrival at Hyderabad airport and they will help you transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 - Hyderabad

 
Sightseeing

Breakfast at hotel, followed by orientation tour of Hyderabad city visiting the Falukuma Palace, Salar Jung Museum and Charminar.

Historical and Educational Tours

In the afternoon, we will visit the Anandha Vihara, which is the majestic and modern Temple dedicated to Lord Buddha and opened by the Dalai Lama himself.

Day 3 - Hyderabad

 
Hyderabad - Nagarjuna Sagar (150 kms / 3 hrs).
Private Car Service

After breakfast, we will drive to Nagarjuna Sagar and then check into the hotel.

Sightseeing

In the afternoon, we will visit Anupu, the Amphi-Theatre, Viharas, Chaityas, and the other impressive Buddhist remains.

Day 4 - Andhra Pradesh

 
Sailing

After breakfast, we will take a boat excursion to visit the serene Nagarjuna Konda Island Museum.

One of the outstanding Buddhist civilizations dating back to the 3rd century A.D. were excavated here and it is carefully preserved on a picturesque island called Nagarjuna Konda, situated in the center of a man-made lake.

In the evening, you will return to Nagarjuna Sagar. Overnight at hotel.


Day 5 - Guntur

 
Nagarjuna Sagar – Guntur (150 kms).
Sightseeing

Breakfast. In the morning, we will drive to Guntur via Amaravati and visit the impressive Maha Stupa Museum and the ancient Amralingeshwara Temple.

We will drive to Guntur and then overnight at the hotel.


Day 6 - Vijayawada

 
Guntur – Vijayawada (35 kms / 45 mins).
Sightseeing

After breakfast, we will drive to Vijayawada. Enroute, we will stopover at Ghantasala, a small village, to visit the remains of the stupa, along with beautiful sculptures of Buddhist mythological stories and also a small but impressive museum of Buddhist statutes and art.

Day 7 - Vijayawada

 
Sightseeing

After breakfast, you can enjoy a full-day guided tour of Neelamkondapalli & Jagayapeta stupas filled with inscriptions from the Mauryan era and the beautiful Undavalli Caves.

Day 8 - Vijayawada

 
Vijaywada – Vizag (380 kms / 7 hrs).
Sightseeing

After breakfast, we will depart to Vizag and stopover to visit Guntupalli’s rock cut caves with over a dozen stupas, viharas, and chaityas. Also, we will be given the chance to see the impressive, six-foot marble statue of Lord Buddha.

Day 9 - Andhra Pradesh

 
Sightseeing

Breakfast at hotel followed by a full-day guided tour. TO include: AM visit to Sankaram - famous for its numerous rows of monolith stupas with expressive images of Lord Buddha. PM visit to Salihudam – an interesting Swastika shaped entrance with a 46-foot diameter stupa & Buddhist Platforms. It was from here that Buddhism spread to far eastern countries.

Return to Vizag. Overnight at hotel.


Day 10 - Andhra Pradesh

 
Sightseeing

After breakfast, there will be a full-day guided excursion to Bavikonda, the most ancient of Buddhist sites. Excavations on the hill-top brought to light an extensive Buddhist establishment consisting of a Mahachaitya, stupas, chaityagrihas, a congregation hall, relic caskets, tiles, moulded bricks, coins, and much more. Later, we shall visit Thotla Konda for Vihara and stupas stuccos dating to 3rd century A.D.

By afternoon, we shall visit Pavuralakonda for the monastic remains and the 14 rock cisterns used by Monks for rainwater collecting and then drive back to Vizag.

Day 11 - Hyderabad

 
Vizag – Hyderabad.
Commercial Flight

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Vizag airport for the departing flight to Hyderabad.

Hotel

On arrival at Hyderabad, you will transfer to the hotel to freshen up.

Proceed to international airport for connecting onward flight.
