Detailed Trip Description
This tour is a train journey where you savour the experience of a Royal Maratha. The Royal Indian train has been benchmarked against the best luxury trains in the world,l ike the Blue Train of South Africa, The Orient Express of Europe, and the Eastern and Oriental of South East Asia. This royal journey takes you on a week-long trip to some of the best places in Maharashtra, namely Mumbai, Ganapatipule, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Sawantwadi, Goa, Pune, Aurangabad, Ellora, Ajanta, and Nashik. So come aboard and get ready to travel to the rich past of the state!
Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - Mumbai
Arrive Mumbai.
Hotel
You will be welcomed on arrival to the international airport by our representative and you will be transferred to your hotel for overnight stay.
Food and Dining
This morning, you will enjoy a lazy breakfast at the hotel with a half-day guided city tour drive only to acclimatize to the Indian weather, people, and great food.
Train
In the evening, we will transfer to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to board the definition of luxury redefined in India, the Deccan Odyssey train.
Day 2 - On the Train
Jaigadh, Ganapatipule, Ratnagiri.
Bus
In the morning, we will arrive at Bhoke Railway Station and will reach the Rai Bhatgaon Jetty by AC bus for the Back Water Cruise up to the historical fort Jaigad.
Beach
We shall board the bus to explore the finest beach along the Konkan coast. Free time and lunch at Ganapatipule Beach Resort.
Sightseeing
At noon, we shall board the bus for a sightseeing tour of the Ratnagiri town. We will visit the Ratnadurg Fort, Lokmanaya Tilak Smarak, and will have some free time in the Ratnagiri Bazar.
Train
We will board the train at Ratnagiri Railway station.
Day 3 - On the Train
Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Sawantwadi.
Bus
In the morning, you will arrive at the Sindhudurg Nagari Railway station. We will depart by AC Bus to Malvan Jetty to witness the Sindhudurg Sea Fort. From the jetty, we will proceed to the Tarkarli Beach Resort for lunch and free time.
Sightseeing
After lunch, we will board the Back Water Cruise through the Tarkarli creek up to the Kale Jetty, followed by a visit to the Sawantwadi town by bus to witness the fabulous lacquer handicrafts, paintings, and furniture at the "Shilpagrama" in the town.
Train
Late in the evening, we will board the train at Sawantwadi railway station.
Day 4 - On the Train
Arrival at Goa.
Sightseeing
In the morning, we will arrive at Karmali, Goa, which is the most frequently visited tourist spot in India. We shall board the bus to reach Old Goa to visit the Basilica De Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi, that used to be a mosque, but now an archaeological museum for Goan antiques.
Bus
We shall proceed to Panjim by bus.
Shopping
Free time for short walk in city and bazaar followed by lunch at Fort Aguada Beach Resort (Taj hotel).
Sightseeing
After lunch, we will visit the Dona Paula and 250 year-old houses.
Train
Late in the evening, we will board the train from Madgaon railway station.
Day 5 - On the Train
Arrival at Pune.
Sightseeing
In the morning, we will arrive at Pune, the erstwhile capital of Marathas. After a scrumptious breakfast, we will board the bus to visit Maratha Phule Mandai, the old central market, and the Raja Dinkar Kalkar Museum, which houses a variety of artifacts of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
Sightseeing
We will proceed to the Rajneesh Ashram, more commonly known as the Osho International Commune, one of the biggest centers for meditation and spiritual growth.
Food and Dining
Lunch & free time at Hotel Le Meridian.
Sightseeing
After, we will visit the Tribal Musuem, which has a collection of 2000 rare and precious articles related to tribal life. We will also visit the Aga Khan Palace, a palace where Mahatma Gandhi was incarcerated during freedom struggle soon after the "Quit India" movement was launched, and is now presently converted into a museum dedicated to the Gandhi family. You will be given the chance to witness the Sound and Light show at Shaniwarwada Palace built in 1732 by the Peshwas. Traditional 'tutari', 'sanai', 'chaughada', garlands, and 'kumkum tilak' welcome you at the entrance. The daring story of the erstwhile Maratha empire enacted by light and sound will capture your imagination inside.

Late in the evening, you will be able to board the train from the Pune railway station.
Day 6 - On the Train
Aurangabad (Ellora caves).
Sightseeing
In the morning, you will arrive at the Aurangabad station and you will proceed by road to witness the historical fort of Daulatabad and Ellora caves, a world Heritage site, having 34 cave temples dedicated to three different religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Food and Dining
Lunch & cultural programme at Taj hotel.
Sightseeing
After lunch, we will visit the Shivaji museum and get the chance to look at the weapons and antiques from the great Maratha Empire. We will also visit the Aurangabad caves no. 7 & 8, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, a replica of Taj Mahal and a grand piece of Mughal architecture. You will have free time to shop around the Paithani, Himroo, and Bidriwork from showrooms for a perfect memorabilia.
Train
Late in the evening, you will board the train from Aurangabad railway station.
Day 7 - On the Train
Ajanta caves and Nasik.
Sightseeing
In the morning, you will arrive at the Jalgaon railway station and board the bus to reach the Fardapur resort. After breakfast, you will proceed to visit the renowned Buddhist caves of Ajanta, a World Heritage Site, to witness some of the finest paintings and sculptures of the second century A.D.
Train
At noon, we will board the train at Bhusawal railway station and proceed to Nasik (Nashik). Lunch will be served on board.
Sightseeing
You will arrive at Nashik railway station and depart to visit Panchawati Ghat and Sula Winery Yard. Also, you will get the chance to wine and dine at the winery yard.
Train
Late in the evening, we will board the train at Nashik railway station.
Day 8 - Mumbai
Arrive Mumbai.
Bus
In the morning, you will arrive Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) station and you will be transferred to your hotel to freshen up.
Sightseeing
Later, there will be a half day city sightseeing of the commercial capital of India that is also famous for its cinema and theatre industry known as Bollywood.
Sightseeing
You will enjoy visits to the Chowpatty, Marine Drive, Elephant caves, Prince of Wales museum, and the night life of the happening and lively city of Mumbai (Bombay).
Late evening transfer to international airport to board flight for onward destination.
