Detailed Trip Description

During this 7 day Bhutan Tour, you will visit Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. The highlights of sightseeing are as follows: Paro sightseeing: Paro Rinpong Dzong (fortress), National Museum (watch tower), Kyichu Lhakhang (oldest monastery) and Drugyal Dzong (victory fortress). Thimphu sightseeing: King's Memorial Chorten (Monument), Chang Gangkha Monastery (one of the oldest monastery in the valley), National Zoo (contains national animal Takin), National Library (collections of holy scripts), Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Museum, School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school), National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Traditional Paper Factory (made from Daphne plant), Simtokha Dzong (the oldest fortress in the kingdom) and Majestic Tashicho Dzong (Thimphu fortress).

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Paro

 
Arrive Paro International Airport from Bangkok.

During the flight, on a clear day, you can see breathtaking views of the Himalaya Mountains, including the sacred Jumolhari and Jichu Drake peaks in Bhutan. On arrival you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel.

Sightseeing

In the afternoon you can visit the following places: Paro Rinpong Dzong (fortress), National Museum (watch tower), Kyichu Lhakhang (oldest monastery) and Drugyal Dzong (victory fortress).

Sightseeing

In the evening you can explore Paro town.

Overnight in Paro.


Day 2 - Thimphu

 
Paro - Thimphu (2-hour drive).
Hiking

After breakfast hike to Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Monastery, which is Bhutan's most famous monastery. It is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. The hike to reach the viewpoint to the monastery makes for a nice half-day excursion.

Private Car Service

After lunch, drive to Thimphu.

Sightseeing

In the evening you can explore Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, and absorb the lifestyle of the people.

Day 3 - Thimphu

After breakfast you will visit the following places: King's Memorial Chorten (Monument), Chang Gangkha Monastery (one of the oldest monastery in the valley), National Zoo (contains national animal takin), National Library (collections of holy scripts), Folk Heritage Museum, Textile Museum, School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school), National Institute of Traditional Medicine, Traditional Paper Factory (made from Daphne plant), Simtokha Dzong (the oldest fortress in the kingdom) and Majestic Tashicho Dzong (Thimphu fortress).

Day 4 - Punakha

 
Thimphu - Punakha (3-hour drive).

After breakfast you will drive to Punakha, with a stop en route for tea at Dochu La (3,100 meters), where on a clear day you can get spectacular views of the Himalayan Mountains.

Sightseeing

After lunch you will visit Punakha Dzong, which is noteworthy for being one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan.

Sightseeing

You will also take a 20-minute walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lakhang, which is a fertility temple.

Day 5 - Thimphu

 
Punakha - Thimphu (3 hour drive).
Private Car Service

After breakfast, you will drive to Thimphu.

Sightseeing

In the afternoon you will visit the weekend market, where you can stroll through the aisles to see the variety of food of the country, including basket upon basket of fiery chilies, fresh cheese, and mangoes.

Shopping

In addition, many stalls contain Bhutanese handicrafts and household items. It's fun to wander the aisles, taking in the bustling atmosphere of the market.

Day 6 - Paro

 
Thimphu - Paro (morning hike to Tango Monastery).
Hiking

In the morning you will drive 12km north of Thimphu to hike to Tango (Horse's Head) monastery. It will take about 45 minutes to hike to the monastery. Tango Monastery is a Buddhist college, and it's the residence of the Desi Tenzin Rabgye, a young boy who is the reincarnation of the 16th-century monk who built Tango.

In the late afternoon you will drive to Paro.

Food and Dining

If you wish, you can visit a traditional farmhouse and enjoy a typical Bhutanese dinner.

Day 7 - Paro

 
Commercial Flight

Depart Paro for Bangkok.
