Detailed Trip Description
The China, Yangtze River & Mongolia Tour is another safe adventure! We are excited to combine the wonders of the Yangtze River Cruise and Beijing, with the adventure of Mongolia. The Chinese are building the largest dam in the world on the Yangtze River. This tour combines some fascinating experiences in Beijing, with the Three Gorges Cruise and Mongolia. In Mongolia we will go to Karakhorum, the ancient capital of Chingiis Khan. This area features the ErDenn Zuu Monastery and 9th century stone tortoises. You will go through the Mongolian Steppe, UlaanBaatar and experience the wonderful Nadaam Festival (JULY ONLY). Nadaam is the national celebration of Mongolian independence which includes wonderful pageantry, costume and a competition of the three national sports-wrestling, horse-racing and archery. We will also meet the Nomads and experience Mongolian hospitality! You will not only see the lands but also experience the people. This will be a wonderful trip that you will remember for the rest of your life!
Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - On the Plane
Commercial Flight
We will meet at LAX, where you will fly to Shanghai. The adventure begins!
Day 2 - Shanghai
Welcome to Shanghai.
You will arrive in Shanghai in the early evening, your guide will transfer you to the hotel.
Day 3 - Shanghai
Sightseeing
You will visit the historic Bund. Then you will go to the world-class Shanghai Museum. After lunch you will visit the beautiful Yu Yuan Gardens.
Performing Arts
The Shanghai Acrobats.
Day 4 - Chongqing
Sightseeing
Today you will visit the Jade Buddha Temple and the Jade Factory. You will have lunch at the Mongolian Barbeque. Then onto the a private Lotus Shoe Museum.
Commercial Flight
You will then take a late afternoon flight to Chongqing.
River or Barge Cruise
Board the cruise ship for the Yangtze River Cruise.
Day 5-6 - At Sea
Yangtze River Cruise.

The Yangtze River Cruise continues (Three Gorges, Shendong stream, beautiful scenery).
Day 7 - Wuhan
River or Barge Cruise
The cruise ship arrives at Yichang early in the morning, where you will be greeted by our local guide and transfered to the Wuhan.
Sightseeing
Along the way we you stop at the ancient city wall of Jinshou and the provincial museum.
Hotel
After you will be taken to your hotel at Wuhan.
Day 8 - Beijing
Museums
Today you will go to the museum in Wuhan which features many fine exhibits.
Commercial Flight
After lunch you will take a flight to Beijing.
Hotel
After then to the hotel. The rest of the day is free.
Day 9 - Beijing
Sightseeing
Today you will go to the Ming Tombs. After lunch you will experience one of the wonders of the world! Have a chance to walk on the Great Wall and view its majesty.
Day 10 - Ulaanbaatar
Commercial Flight
Today you fly to UlaanBatar, Mongolia.
Sightseeing
You will have an afternoon city tour.
Day 11 - Ulaanbaatar
Museums
Today includes a morning visit the Gandan Monastery and the Choijin Lama Temple Museum, follow by a visit to the National History Museum.
Day 12 - Mongolia
Sightseeing
Today you will go on a jeep trek to Karakhorum. See the beautiful Mongolian Steppe. Visit Nomads along the way and enjoy Nomad hospitality. Uppon arrival at the ger camp, visit the 9th century stone tortoises.
Camping
Tonight you will eat and sleep at a ger camp, which includes sleeping in gers.
Day 13 - Mongolia
Sightseeing
Today experience the Erdene Zuu Monastery. There are several interesting buildings, Buddhist artwork and possibly view a Buddhist service. Then return to the Dutch Horse Ranch (where the only originally wild horses can be found).
Day 14 - Ulaanbaatar
Hotel
Today you will return to UlaanBatar. After lunch the rest of the day is free.
Day 15 - Ulaanbaatar
Sightseeing
Today you will experience the wonderful Naadam Festival! This national celebration of independence includes an opening ceremony in Naadam Stadium and a competition of the three national sports- Horse-racing, Archery and Wrestling.
Day 16 - Ulaanbaatar
Sightseeing
Today you will visit the Zanabazar Art Museum. Then we will take you to the Bogd Khan Summer and Winter Palace, which has many interesting sights.
Shopping
After lunch you will visit the Natural History Museum and if time permits you can shop at the Gobi Cashmere Store which features fine Mongolian cashmere and camel hair garments as well as the State Department Store.
Day 17 - Beijing
Commercial Flight
Today you will fly to Beijing.
Hotel
Upon arriving there, the guide will pick you up and take you to Bei Hai park on the way to the hotel in Beijing.
Commercial Flight
You will fly to Dalanzadgad in the morning.
Camping
You arrive at campsite. Once settled in the camp we will take you on a tour of the area featuring Yol Am.
Day 18 - Beijing
You will than be transfered back to the airport to return to the US with a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Sightseeing
You will go on a full day tour, including the Flaming Cliffs (where dinosaur fossils were discovered in Mongolia), a camel herder and see the large dunes and varied countryside sites. If there is time we can take a brief tour of Dalanzadgad.
Day 19 - Ulaanbaatar
Sightseeing
Enjoy the ger campsite and the beautiful scenery in the Dalanzadgad.
Commercial Flight
Fly back to UlaanBaatar.
Hotel
Transfer to your hotel or apartment.
Day 20 - Beijing
Commercial Flight
Today you will fly to Beijing.
Hotel
Upon arriving there, the guide will pick you up and take you to Bei Hai park on the way to the hotel in Beijing.
Day 21 - Beijing
You will be transfered back to the airport to return to the US with a lifetime of wonderful memories.
