Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Bhopal

 
Tour starts from Bhopal. Visit museums and art centers in Bhopal.

Tour starts form Bhopal, the city of lakes. You will be picked up from the location of your choice in Bhopal and transferred to the hotel.

Museums

This afternoon you will be visiting the State Museum of Madhya Pradesh. The museum is a splendid collection of artifacts illustrating rich cultural history of the state. The museum has sixteen galleries displaying unique showcase from pre-historic tools of lower Paleolithic period, sculptor of Yakshi of 2nd century BC, statue of Buddha of 2nd century AD, weapons & coins form British and Mugal period, and rare musical instruments.

Sightseeing

In a short distance from the museum is the Bharat Bhawan, a complex that carters to an array of art forms, comprises a museum for the arts, an art gallery, a workshop for fine arts, a repertory theatre, indoor and outdoor auditoria, rehearsal rooms and libraries of Indian poetry and classical and folk music. It is designed by the renowned architect Charles Correa.

Sightseeing

In the evening you will be visiting Gauhar Mahal, one of the first buildings built by the nawabs of Bhopal in 1816. The Mahal is a magnificent expression of the fusion of Hindu and Mugal architecture. Gauhar Mahal is situated behind Shaukat Mahal on the banks of the Upper Lake. It is an architectural gem built by Kudsia Begum, also known as Gohar Begum.

Day 2 - Bhopal

Museums

Today you will be visiting Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (National Museum of Mankind). This unique museum is situated on a prehistoric site and the only museum in the world scattered with numerous prehistoric painted rock shelters. The cultural diversity and religion of India's tribes is highlighted in the museum. Tribal Habitat is an open-air exhibit; an entire fishing village has been replicated featuring Coastal Village with a Kerala snake boat, Desert Village from Rajasthan as well as a Himalayan Village. The museum is created in about 80 hectares of undulating land on the bank of upper lake of Bhopal.

Later today, you will be visiting the Birla Museum. This museum has an excellent albeit small collection of well displayed rare sculptures (7th – 12th century) in the Shiva, Vishnu and Devi galleries. These sculptures belong mainly to the Paramara period.

Shopping

After visiting Birla museum you can go to shop souvenirs and local handicrafts to the Mrignayani Emporium, a state government undertaking, devoted to development of small scale and cottage industry. Tour concluded today.
