Detailed Trip Description

Tucked away in the scenic mountain valley close to the Thai border, Kengtung's culture resembles those of the Mekong rather than Myanmar. A laid back town which have retained its many old traditions and customs, Kengtung is an archaeological treasure trove where classical Shan houses with intricately designed wooden balconies, aging Buddhist temples mix seamlessly with crumbling colonial architecture left over from its yesteryears. Kengtung is an excellent base for you to explore the distinctive cultures of the colorful hill tribes. Different beliefs of Animism, Buddhism and Christianity co-exist together in this remote town. Short treks take you to Wa, Shan, Akha and Lahu villages where you will find villages and people very few tourists have ever visited.
