Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - Panama
Arrival in Panama City
Upon arrival to Panama, our on the ground representative will pick you up at the airport and transfer you
to your city hotel for your first night in Panama.
Panama City is the capital and largest city in the country. It is home to a diverse blend of cultures and an
enormous historical sector in the Old City. The lively and vibrant banking district on the other hand is very
modern and often compared to Miami. Panama City is a thrilling location you will surely enjoy during your
visit to this gorgeous country.
The Country Inn Panama Canal is conveniently located near the tourist attractions in Panama City Take
a sunset stroll on the Amador Causeway for a spectacular view of the Bridge of the Americas, visit the
Old Quarters of Panama, shop at nearby malls and markets, or visit the Smithsonian's Marine Exhibition
Center. Other Panama area attractions convenient to the hotel include the Panama Canal Railway, the
City of Knowledge, Indian villages and the Braswell Shipyards

Day 2 - Panama
Panama City
Full Day Panama City Tour & Miraflores Locks
Your English speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you on a private tour to Panama City
and the Miraflores Locks. You will start the tour with a 30 minutes drive to Miraflores to see the huge
vessels passing the Panama Canal. The busiest hours are from 9am to 10am and from 2pm to 5pm,
so you will be able to see many ships getting lifted or lowered 16 meters in two distinct steps. You will
enjoy the view on the Locks from a sheltered terrace and listen to the explanations of your guide. To
complete the visit of the Canal you will visit the Museum and Visitor Center at Miraflores which gives you
a good idea on the construction of the Canal – a masterpiece of engineering. You will also learn about the
history of the canal and its significance for Panama and the entire world trade as well as on the current expansion project.
After the visit to the Canal you continue with your guide to the Amador Causeway, a road that connects
three Islands in the Pacific Ocean and offers magnificent views on the Canal on one side and on the
skyline of Panama City on the other side. Lunch will be served in a Panamanian restaurant on the
causeway. After lunch the tour continues to the Casco Viejo, Panama City’s colonial quarter. At the
Casco Viejo you feel set back in time as you admire the lovely colonial houses, the narrow roads and the
impressive churches. You will get a good idea about Panama’s history by driving or walking through the
main attractions of this quarter. If you want to continue the tour you will be taken to Panama Viejo, the Old
Panama. Panama Viejo was the first European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas. This first
Panama City was looted and destroyed by the notorious English bucaneer Henry Morgan in 1671 and
therefore abandoned. Today there are only ruins left. Still, the tower of the ancient cathedral is standing
and has become a landmark of the town. After the tour you will be taken back to your hotel.
Important Note: Depending on ship traffic in the locks the order of the tour might be inverted to assure
that the clients will see ships in the locks.

Day 3 - Panama
Panama City – Isla Boca Brava
Today you will fly to David in the Chiriquí Province and then transfer by road and boat to Isla Boca Brava
and your lodge, Cala Mia.
This is a beautiful eco-lodge with just 11 cabañas. All of them are situated within 10 meters of the Pacific
Ocean. Boca Brava Island is located in the gulf of Chiriqui and it is part of the National Marine Park. This
3000-hectare lovely little island offers the visitor an unspoiled natural paradisiacal atmosphere with lots
of hiking trails, white sand tropical beaches, and numerous of wildlife. A great spot for birders and wildlife
watching fans since it is home to hundreds of monkeys, nesting sea turtles and 280 types of birds.

Day 4 - Panama
Pacific Beach Retreat
Enjoy three days to rest and relax with the option of doing tours visiting near islands, beaches and
mangroves. Just relax on the lovely beach and get some new and fresh energy or book a spa treatment.

Day 5 - Panama

Day 7 - Panama
Isla Boca Brava – Panama City
Today you will fly from David to Panama City (domestic flight) and then transfer to your rainforest retreat
in Gamboa, a small village in the Panamanian Rain Forest. Gamboa is located on the shores of Gatun
Lake, a large artificial lake that forms a major part of the Panama Canal, carrying ships for 33 km of their
transit across the Isthmus of Panama.
Your hotel for the next three nights is the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. From this beautiful luxury hotel, you
have immediate access to Panama's pristine rain forest and the Panama Canal. You can explore miles
and miles of the Soberania National Park, meeting wild exotic birds and monkeys on expertly guided
tours and then return to the comforts of resort luxury. Gamboa Rainforest Resort brings you luxury in the
jungle.

Day 8 - Panama
Visit to the Embera Indians
In the morning your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you up north towards Lake Alajuela.
There you will step into small boats, which will carry you up the Rio Chagres. A fascinating and dense
jungle will accompany you on your boat trip. Upriver, you will step out of the dugout canoes and enjoy
a short hike (can be a bit muddy) to a beautiful waterfall in midst of the rain forest. Enjoy this tropical
paradise far away from any civilization, take a swim in the refreshing pool just beneath the waterfall and
submerge in this true tropical getaway. Now you are ready to visit the village of the Embera Indians, one
of seven indigenous tribes in Panama. The people of the Emberá tribe will welcome you at the pier and
gladly give you an idea on how they still live today. The villages chief will give you a brief explication
on the history of the tribe, its traditions, cultures, believes and handicrafts. Then, a traditional lunch
of fish and plantains prepared by the Embera women will be served to you. In the afternoon you will
experience a traditional Embera dance and have the opportunity to shop for handicrafts. The sale of local
products directly benefits the village and helps to pay the school fees for the children. You can also get a
temporary Embera tattoo painted on your arm or leg.

Day 9 - Panama
Private Jungle Adventure
In the early morning you will be picked up at your hotel pier for your tour.
A bilingual naturalist guide will take you on an exciting boat tour on the lake. Lake Gatun offers a great
wealth of natural beauty as well as historical value. Built to be a big part of the Panama Canal, Lake
Gatun used to be the biggest man-made lake at the time of its construction. Today, the lake is home to
a unique biodiversity. After leaving the pier in Gamboa you will travel northbound on the Panama Canal
for a few minutes. With a bit of luck you will be able to see a huge container vessel from a very short
distance. Then, your guide will take you to the different areas of the lake. Many islands and islets are just
waiting for you to get explored. Tspecies of monkeys, sloths, alligators, turtles and of course hundreds of
colorful birds can easily be spotted on shore. Your guide knows the best places to observe the lush flora
and exciting fauna of Lake Gatun.
On one island you will start a trek into the rainforest of the island that was used by the North-Americans
during World War II. This moderately difficult hike will take you into dense jungle where again, you will
have the opportunity to spot wild animals such as howler monkeys. Follow the footsteps of WWII soldiers
passed the remains of historic war bunkers and equipment and hear stories from an expert tour guide
about the adventures of training to survive in the jungle.
A Picnic Lunch will be served on a small island in the lake. After the tour, transportation back to your hotel
will be provided.

Day 10 - Panama
Aerial Tram & Exhibits Tour (Shared Tour)
The aerial tram ride traverses a mile long tract of Humid Forest that lies within the Gamboa Resort’s
boundaries. You will observe the forest canopy in some areas and are likely to encounter birds and hear
Howler monkeys. The tram ascends 280 feet over half a mile and ends atop a hill. From here you will
walk two minutes to the observation tower (which is optional) and for those with some stamina involves a
climb of a 100 feet up a mildly inclined ramp which is also wheelchair accessible. From the observation
tower you'll get great views of the Canal, the Chagres River as well as the surrounding forested areas of
Soberania Nat'l Park and the town of Gamboa. The Tower is slightly less than 500 feet above sea level
with most of this elevation attained by tram. On the return portion of the tram you will descend the final
half-mile back to the starting point. After the aerial tram tour you will visit the self-guided exhibits at the
Gamboa Resort.

Nocturnal Boat Safari
What are the rainforest animals doing at night? Search for them on a night tour in a Gamboa open air tour
bus to find out. It is possible to see tapirs, capybaras, alligators, rare tropical opossums, and two –toed
sloths. An extra bonus of this tour is that you will get to know the extent of the resort grounds and learn
interesting facts about the area.
