Detailed Trip Description

On the tour you will be attending the world famous Oberammergau Passion Play. In addition, the tour will visit Prague, Dresden, Erfurt and Augsburg. The tour is hosted by Dr. Steven Arnold of Concordia University, St. Paul, MN.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Tuesday July 13 - United States

 

You begin your journey with a flight to Frankfurt. In flight meals


Day 2 Wednesday July 14 - Frankfurt

 

Meet with your host Dr. Steve Arnold for a magnificent tour of Europe and the Oberammergau Passion Play. A modern travel coach takes you to the picturesque town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. In the afternoon a local guide will take you on a walking tour. Time to rest followed by a welcome dinner. B D


Day 3 Thursday July 15 - Augsburg

 

In Luther's time Augsburg was the business center of Germany. Here the Fugger family had their headquarters and the Lutherans proclaimed their faith with the Augsburg Confession. B


Day 4 Friday July 16 - Oberammergau

 

This is the day where you enjoy the original Passion Play, held every ten years and performed by the inhabitants of Oberammergau. The Passion Play includes a lunch and a dinner. Night in a typical Bavarian guesthouse. B L D

Day 5 Saturday July 17 - Salzburg

 

After a relaxing night and a good breakfast you enjoy the Alps on a scenic drive through the wonderful Bavarian landscape. Travels today take you to Salzburg, the town of Mozart. B


Day 6 Sunday July 18 - Salzburg

 

A pleasant stroll with a local guide takes you through the historical center. You will see Mirabell Gardens, the festival hall and Mozart's birthplace in Getreidegasse. The afternoon gives you time for your own excursion, a good time in a café or a visit in one of the museums. B


Day 7 Monday July 19 - Prague

 

On your way to Prague you stop in the town Budweis, the original home of the Budweis brewery. You take a tour of the brewery and a good sample taste before you continue to your hotel in the center of Prague. Tonight your group meets for dinner. B D


Day 8 Tuesday July 20 - Prague

 

Morning sightseeing reveals why Prague is considered one of Europe's most attractive capitals. See a 1,000 year old castle, the cathedral, and the astronomical clock. The rest of the day gives you enough time for more sightseeing. You might also want to listen to the musicians at Carol's Bridge or visit one of the many concerts in the churches. B


Day 9 Wednesday July 21 - Dresden

 

Your route takes you North again to Germany. You enter a boat in Konigstein and cruise the lovely valley of the Elbe River into Dresden. B


Day 10 Thursday July 22 - Dresden

 

Dresden is called the Venice of the North. On a nice walk through the center you discover the Semper Opera, the Zwinger Palace, and the Frauenkirche which was just reconstructed after the WWII bombings. B


Day 11 Friday July 23 - Erfurt

 

The bus takes you to Erfurt. A local guide will take you on a walking tour. You will hold the evening prayers in the church of the Augustinian Cloister, the original church where Martin Luther was a monk. B


Day 12 Saturday July 24 - Frankfurt

 

En route to Frankfurt you stop for a visit of Wartburg Castle where Martin Luther translated the bible. In the evening it's time for a farewell dinner in our hotel close to the airport. B D


Day 12 Sunday July 25 - United States

 

It's time to say goodbye to Germany. Our homebound flights arrive the same day. B
