Trip Itinerary
Departure - New York
Departure from United States
Departure from United States city, AirFrance overnight flight with stopover in Paris.
Above price is based on flight from JFK, NY.
Day 1 - Tunis
Arrive in Tunis, flight to Tozeur in afternoon - Arrive in Tozeur, pick up and transfer to Hotel
After time to unwind at your hotel, you will be driven to the palm grove to a large theatrical tent where you'll enjoy a full-course meal and activities like Berber music, belly-dancing, acrobatics, and more!
Day 2 - Tozeur
Enjoy the day in the Atlas Mountains and explore the thriving oasis villages.
Hiking
Morning departure for the Atlas Mountains - Ride the Red Lizard Rouge train, the old Bey's train of the 19th century.
Next enjoy lunch at Tamerza Palace and visit the 3 Oases of the Mountains: Chebika, Tamerza and Mides.
Relaxation
After dinner at your hotel, enjoy your evening at Chak Wak Park in the Tozeur oasis.
Day 3 - Tozeur
Discover the oases and old towns of Tozeur and Nefta. As well as watching the sun set at Ong Jemel.
Semi-Private Tour
Horse-ridden carriage will pick you up in the morning and bring you through an extensive tour of Tozeur: parks, palm forest, brick factory, old town "Ouled el Hadef", boutiques and galleries.
After lunch in Tozeur, you will be picked up by your 4x4 driver and proceed to Nefta to visit the old town and oasis. After a walking tour, continue to Ong Jemel the site among many others where Star Wars and The English Patient were filmed. Watch the sun set over the enormous dunes.
Day 4 - Tunisia
Chott El Jerid & Nouil & Effaour
Safari
Morning departure south past Degeuche and to the Chott el Jerid Salt flat.
Continue to your campsite, where you'll take a meharée, or camel trek to your tents.
Night under the stars and in the middle of the endless dunes.
Day 5 - Tunisia
Douz & Ksar Ghilane
Safari
Wake up and watch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast mount your camel and continue back to civilization.
Board the 4x4 and continue to Douz and spend time in the town. Enjoy your lunch here.
You will continue further south and enter Ksar Ghilane, a small oasis that borders endless dunes. Check-into a luxury campsite that has gorgeous canvas tents with AC and heating, private bathrooms and a sitting area.
Day 6 - Tunisia
Ksar Ghilane - Day relaxing in the Sahara
Spend your day in the Sahara by the pool or taking a walk in the palm forest, perhaps discovering the fresh water spring.
Day 7 - Tunisia
Tataouine and the ksour - Matmata and troglodyte homes
Semi-Private Tour
You will depart your campsite in Ksar Ghilane and continue east toward the Dahar Mountain range. Here you'll discover the ancient Berber settlements created on the ridges of high rocky mountains. Several of these mountains have ksour, or ghorfas - honeycomb-like storehouses.
Continue to Matmata and spend the night in a typical troglodyte-style hotel.
Day 8 - Djerba
Matmata and Djerba
You will visit a real troglodyte home -- local Berbers open their own homes for us to see these carved-out homes.
Continue to Djerba island and check-into a small quaint hotel in the old Jewish neighborhood, Erriadh.
Day 10 - Tunisia
Flight back to the US
You will be transferred to the Djerba Airport where you will depart for Tunis. From Tunis you will then depart with AirFrance back to the US, with a stopover in Paris.
